Honor Thy Mother 5/10/2023

By Gloria Hayden

Today, mothers have an even greater challenge than other generations because of the societal issues, along with deadly drugs, gun violence, peer pressure, violence on all levels of education and bulling in mass media. A mother no longer must ask their small children, “Where did you hear or learn that from?” Unfiltered information is being sent to them across the airways and through various media outlets. Parents have unwittingly equipped their children with tools that fit in the palms of their hands to influence and control their behaviors.

Due to societies’ lack of respect for righteousness, mothers and fathers struggle with encouraging their children to live by moral and ethical standards. These days, it is rare to hear a young person addressing an adult as sir and ma’am out of respect. When it happens, you are curious about their parental influences. Whenever you observe a younger person showing respect by helping an elderly person in public without criminal intent you are delighted and encouraged.

The time has come to stop, recognize, remember and give God thanks for our mothers. I know that many of you who are reading this article are not blessed to have your parents among us. On this Sunday, let us remember our mothers and their struggles to help us be better citizens and neighbors.

Ephesians 6:1-3 TLB 1 Children, obey your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you. 2 Honor your father and mother. This is the first of God’s Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. 3 And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessings.

We are blessed to have one of our own chapel mothers, Diana Hallock, to share words of wisdom and encouragement as we honor mothers on this Mother’s Day Sunday.

Please join us at the Villages Community Chapel in Cribari Auditorium, every Sunday at 10 a.m. to be encouraged over the Word and enjoy a cup of coffee and cookies with friends. The chapel is a place for needs to be met, faith to be affirmed and new friends to embrace. You can view our worship services on YouTube at Villages Community Chapel San Jose, CA.
