“Making Our Time Together Matter” July 24, 2025

Several times a year, close families gather to celebrate special days or events. In our early days, Gloria and I would travel back to the Midwest, where we lived, to visit our parents and siblings. For some families, it can be a time of turmoil and drama due to past offenses and grudges held. There could be tension in the atmosphere, and others may not feel the warmth, comfort and joy that the gathering offers most. If that is the case, it would be an excellent opportunity to pray beforehand, in between, and afterwards, because there is no guarantee for the next time.

Those gatherings should be a wonderful time for family and friends to come together with the express purpose of loving and encouraging each other during these challenging times. Many people are stressed about things that lack eternal value. They may not realize that there may be someone missing from the table next year, and the opportunity to be a blessing to someone will have passed. This can be devastating, having to live with grief and regret, which can affect your well-being.

I think we can all agree that life is too short, and there are things about each other’s character that we would like to change, but can’t. If this is true, why shorten your life by worrying and stressing about another person who doesn’t conform to your way of life? Stop making yourself sick over their behavior. Love and pray for them, because it covers a multitude of faults… then let it go and count your abundant blessings!

Let’s remember that our Creator has given us all Free Will. People use it for good or evil! Despite what others may say or do, be the best person that you can be, knowing that all of us are imperfect people looking for love, acceptance, forgiveness, and grace.

The next family gathering can be a beautiful experience, provided we allow love, acceptance, forgiveness, and grace to be the central theme of the gathering. Make it a purposeful and creative endeavor to enjoy the company of your loved ones. Ephesians 4:32 ESV “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Please join us in celebrating Life at the Villages Community Chapel in Cribari Auditorium this Sunday at 10 a.m. to be encouraged over the Word of Life and enjoy coffee and cookies with friends.
